While VM images for Hyper-V-Microsoft's own hypervisor-were uploaded to the portal on time, devs who use VMWare, VirtualBox, or Parallels to host their virtual machines are still out of luck. June's developer VM images expired five days ago (on July 10), and despite several days of Boyette's angry tweets, the VM images are still missing. The images themselves are decidedly ephemeral-they expire each month, requiring devs using the program to download new, refreshed images. Preferential treatment much? You can follow our blog for new images we release for VMware.It's pretty telling that you guys have let the free VMWare/VirtualBox/Parallels Windows dev images expire but updated the HyperV image. VMware claims the Player offers better graphics, faster performance, and tighter integration than any other solution for virtualization. It uses the same virtualization core as VMware Workstation, a similar program with more features, but not free of charge. VMware Player can run existing virtual appliances and create its own virtual machines (which require an operating system to be installed to be functional). To check what edition you're currently running, go to PC info in PC settings or System in Control Panel, and look for Windows edition. It is free of charge for personal use offered by VMware corporation. You should also choose the same edition of Windows. VMware player is virtualization product just like VirtualBox.
